The Safe Internet League, together with the National Rating Company, began to evaluate the security of the content of the main Runet search engines. The content of answers that appear on search engines to queries about suicide, drugs and child pornography will now be regularly reviewed, and based on the results of the survey, the first rating will be created at the end of the year.
What is the rating for?
According to the executive director of the Safer Internet League, search engines are currently one of the most requested services on the Internet, used by a huge number of people, including a large number of minors. However, there is practically no effective mechanism to protect children from the negative influence of Internet content. He also states that there are only very few developments in this area, unfortunately, one comprehensive protection system does not yet exist.
In order to build the system, it is necessary to determine the current state as precisely as possible. It is for this reason that the search engine rating mechanism is introduced.
Experts from the League and analysts from the National Rating Agency (NRA) will be involved in the survey. The results of the survey will then be forwarded to the Internet companies that manage the given search engines to improve the search technique and the selection of output information. All Internet users will be able to familiarize themselves with the rating. The first joint search engine ratings from the League and the NRA will be published later this year. After that, this rating will appear regularly. Over time, it will be possible to assess the security of banking systems and the protection of mobile subscribers against spam.
“Black List“
At the end of 2012, the so-called “black list” of websites came into effect in Russia – this is a register that lists Internet resources that contain unauthorized information.
Child pornography, promotion of drugs and suicides, incitement of ethnic hatred and extremism are illegal. Sites that contain illegal content are immediately added to this list.
Roskomnadzor initially alerts the site owner that unauthorized information has been detected on his site and demands its removal from the site within 24 hours.
If the site owner does not respond to this notification, this request is displayed to the hosting provider of the resource. If illegal content still remains on the site, then it is already blacklisted.
Hundreds of blocked websites
At the beginning of September, the number of websites that were blocked by IP address exceeded 400.
Of the total number of entries in the register, in 2583 cases these are websites that promote drug addiction, in 311 they are suicides and 147 sources refer to child pornography.
