Over 20% of runet users admit that they spend more time on the Internet than is healthy. Internet Day was celebrated in Russia on September 30. It was on this day 15 years ago that IT Infoart Stars proposed to recalculate all users, at that time 1 million runet users had access to the Internet. A lot has changed in a few years. Today, Russia ranks first in the number of Internet users in Europe. According to statistics, 50.1 million runet users connect to the Internet every day, and 43% of them are under the age of 18. At the same time, the number of adult citizens who go to the Internet at least once a day has increased by 13% over the past year. The results of the survey show that 74.4 million inhabitants (which is about 60% of the population of Russia) over the age of 12 use Internet services at least once a month. The most popular runet resources remain Yandex, VKontakte and Mail.Ru. Each of them attracts an average of 30 million users per day, according to survey data. 73% of respondents use the global network to search for information, slightly fewer users read news on the Internet (64%) or use social network services (63%). Half of the respondents download or listen to music on the Internet, 21% play online games, only 4% of runet users answered that they go to the Internet to manage their blog. Sociologists have come to the conclusion that almost every fifth runet user (22%) suffers from Internet addiction. 16% of the respondents admitted that they cannot last long without contact on social networks. Another 11% said they spend a lot of time checking email.
Internet Day has been tried several times on different days, but not a single date has become traditional. In Russia, Internet Day is celebrated on September 30, while in other countries it falls on April 4 – the day of the medieval archbishop Saint Isidore of Seville, who created one of the prototypes of the modern Internet – a 20-volume encyclopedia of human knowledge. It is this saint who is considered the heavenly patron of the worldwide Internet network. Also, the 4.04 date is very similar to the HTTP 404 error. There is one more date for the Internet, May 17, 1991, when the World Wide Web (WWW) standard was approved.
