The Russian net is considered one of the largest and most influential sectors of the Internet. The size of supporters by nationality, then Russian net surpasses all European countries, ranking 6th in the world. Only China, USA, Japan, India and Brazil are ahead of Russia. The Russian net is visited monthly by more than 80 million people from other countries.
On April 7, 1994, an entry was made to the international database of national domains about the opening of the Russian Internet space. Within 7 years, the word Runet entered the spelling dictionary, and in 2005, the word Runet also appeared in the Rozental dictionary.
In 2009, an important event occurred in the Russian Internet. One more national domain, .рф, was registered. Internet penetration in Russia is almost 50%.
