Yandex developers have announced their new service that will allow blocking of dangerous websites for home networks and individual PCs. Blocking dangerous sites with the help of the service is completely free, at the same time it is possible to protect your platform from harmful content, virus attack, and also block sites that are intended only for adults.
This project, according to the developers, will be primarily intended for parents who want to protect computers from children, then for network administrators to prevent employees from accessing social networks, and also for those users whose computers are constantly attacked by viruses and Trojan horses.
The Yandex .DNS service will be able to provide protection for both personal computers and mobile devices. This service can be configured both for an individual device and for the entire network through a Wi-Fi access point. For example, if the Yandex .DNS service is configured for a home router, then it will be possible to block dangerous websites on all devices in the house. In addition, firmware verified by the manufacturer has already been created specifically for D-Link and ZyXEL. If necessary, Yandex .DNS can be configured manually.
The Yandex .DNS service works in several working modes: “safe mode” – allows you to protect computers and smartphones from malicious and fraudulent websites. “Family Mode” blocks access to adult websites, dangerous content and fraudulent resources. “Mode without filtering” – standard DNS server.
Yandex.DNS works with the data of search engines and the base of the built-in antivirus from Yandex. If a user goes to a website that is blocked by the company’s filter, they will only see a source blocking message. The developers claim that the use of Yandex.DNS does not affect the speed of the Internet.
Currently, there are about 3 million resources in the Yandex database that can be dangerous for users. For work, the system uses Sophos technologies and its own antivirus file, which was developed based on a behavioral approach. The Yandex robot goes to the site, posing as a regular user, and tries to analyze the functioning of the scripts. This approach makes it possible to determine the presence of a virus with high probability.
Of course, it is possible to create your own traffic filtering solution on your corporate network, for example with RAD Studio XE3 (a software development environment for Windows, Mac and mobile platforms), but even the free version has many advantages. It will primarily be used by small and medium-sized companies.
In addition, Yandex fights fraudulent websites and can identify content unsuitable for children and youth, which can be filtered using “family mode”. The Yandex.DNS service is available at dns.yandex.ru.
